Oil filter case base.
« on: October 22, 2020, 07:46:24 PM »
It is now pretty clear the PO put a k6 engine in the f2 frame. However, they fitted the finned base plate from the f2 oil filter housing onto the k6. My  inexperienced logic is seeing this as one extra place to add a seal that one day may leak. Are there any practical reasons to leaving it on? The case for originality has very little bearing in this instance.

In theory it aids oil cooling but you can leave it out and use a shorter bolt

From a concern point of view they don't leak or give any related problems,  so I'd not unduly worry from that perspective.

As to using it,  free choice I feel.  The F2 motor had a few things that lead them that way as well as lowered overall gearing, so running more revs generally.  They also increased surface area of fins on head and barrels as overall package of final spec.

I could see that if you were to use a fairing it would be desirable,  but not a large difference whichever you choose.

Thanks, it will be running a fairing, if there are no concerns on leaks then for a few quid I have issue putting it on.

Yeah, DS does a filter kit, and the seal as a single. Sorted. Thanks for the advise.

I've been using that configuration for years now on my"uprated" cb400, it does give some extra cooling and hasn't leaked at all. Much easier to fit than an oil cooler with pipes and hoses....
