As part of servicing lots of car manufacturers specify changing the fluid every two, three or four years. A real money spinner for garages.

It is a good idea to change every few years as in a car with vent holes in the master ot does absorb water then if you need to brake a lot the fluid gets hot enough for the water to boil off causing vapour lock and lost brakes

Unless you can guarantee to get every last tiny bit of old fluid out dont use dot5.


That's why I am a big fan of dot 5.1 it's not overly expensive with lower hygroscopic spec plus it mixes with everything except dot 5.0.
