Incorrect DVLA Registration Date
« on: April 30, 2021, 02:51:13 PM »
I have just received my V5C after going through the normal registering a US import process - took about 3 weeks. And as an aside, no MOT required, I just filled in an MOT exempton form V112 (I know that it has been a contentious issue for registering bikes over 40 years in previous posts) - I have previously gone through all the hassle of trying to get my bike to the MOT station without the bike being registered (insurance on VIN number, etc).
However, they have put the registered date as the 01/72 instead of 12/72 as per US title and dating cert from VJMC, which means it is on a 'K' reg not an 'L' reg. As its an early 500K2, it means the bike has a reg that pre dates the model.

What should I do? Leave it and possibly affect the provinence/value (will it affect this aspect) or try to un-pick the process?

Has anyone got a tel number for the appropriate DVLA dept (can only get a generic DVLA number off the web)
Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,
That's the cock-eyed system that DVLA use i'm afraid, they register imports from the beginning of the year that the title says.  It happened a couple of times to me and in one case I ended up with an 'M' reg 400/4 - even though I insisted that there were only N reg bikes onwards.  This was in the days of LVROs where you could actually talk to someone face to face - still didn't work though.

Ian

Forgot to say though, I got historic status a year earlier on that one because of their stupidity.

Just checked the K2 based CR750's V5 that I registered in 2018 and DVLA put the first date of registration as the same 08/2018 date of the first UK registration date - so there is inconsistancy
I suppose that I have the original certificate of title with the correct date on in my bike history file if I can't change anything

Julie, the problem is 'contacting DVLA' - anybody got a tel number?

Last time I rang the DVLA about 45 years ago I actually thought I was talking to a not very smart robotic voice recognition system - several minutes into the conversation the DVLA spokes person ran out of scripted replies. It was actually quite funny but the circumstances were very sad - I was in the motor trade & wanted to de-register a new vehicle as the buyer had died before taking delivery. It took almost a year to complete - I sold the vehicle to another buyer a month or so later who used it with the original VRM. When the process was completed they had allocated another VRM.  Our firm paid for the replacement number plates !!

Well I spent 2 hours going round in circles trying to contact DVLA today - and never got to speak/correspond with anyone. Only tel number ended directing me to webchat - webchat asks basic question asked by a 'bot' (their term not mine). Then 'bot' directed to 'adviser' - asked to enter all my details (twice!) then when asked/answered 'are you a key worker' - 'sorry no advisers' available - please try later'.
I think there is some industrial action this week but think I'll just give up and have a 'K' registration!

I feel for you Phil. They sent my Bomber V5 back after 7 weeks with wrong information on it. I never did manage to contact anyone useful via phone so I mailed it back to them with a letter. That was four weeks ago and nothing yet. My 750 went historic on 1st April and taxed via the post office but the V5 is also still missing. As government departments go, the DVLA seams to stand out as a beacon of incompetence.

Perhaps not quite the same, however I bought a sports car for the summer last week and the registration was changed to my name on the Monday, and the new document arrived on that same Thursday.
