Cafe racer

Hi all

Hope you are all well and looking forward to summer

Just picked up this

It’s an original Mead Speed fairing for a CB400F

Alway fancied one of these since my mate had a yellow F2 fitted with one in the early 80’s

It going to be fitted most  likely next year to this old girl as currently restoring the tank and side panels back to original with a plan to finish the rebuild of the engine next winter so the bike at that point will be finished

Also with the fairing is a brand new set of ACE clip ons so looking please if anybody has a set of rear sets tucked away they would like to sell or  if anybody has any recommendations on possible rear sets suppliers

Many thanks in advance to all

Best wishes Al

I got my rear sets from, M and P - they're Raask but come with no fitting instructions! One of the guys on here helped me out with advice , so if you get stuck drop me a line or use the search feature, should throw up something.
If you're using clip ons you might need to "adapt" the tank slightly, along with the switches! Good luck!

Raask rear sets are well engineered, but they are a little radical but easy to fit, I have photo's if needed anytime

No it’s been chromed by the PO but it’s crap and flaky so planning to get it stripped off and a straight polish when I pull the engine later this year

I love the fairing btw.

I only ever fitted one aftermarket fairing & that was to an Ariel Arrow it looked great but my steering lock was crap afterwards!
Honda CB500 K1 (new pit dug out ready)
Honda CB400 four super sport (first money pit)

Hi all

First thanks for the advice on possible rear sets

No I don’t think it will make the old girl quicker

Just want to make the bike a bit different

Been searching off and on for this type of fairing  that was designed for the CB400F off for over a year but nothing but just decided last night to just have a nosy on flea bay and this popped up so just had to have it

I will need a refurb / repaint but it does come with all the correct front and rear mounting brackets for the CB400F set up

So should be not to much of a struggle to fit and just need to sort out handle bar switch gear (I have a plan for that) and maybe reduce steering lock ( but my lower yoke already has adjustable stops as the originals were damaged that allowed the forks to touch the tank on full lock) and then sort some rear sets

Lastly the bottom is cut to match the original Honda down pipe collector so this may need a tweak to suit the Delkevic exhaust

Catch up soon

Best wishes Al

Hi all

Well that the first bit done

Now fitted with some ACE bars and some bloody expensive rear sets

Bars fit well and adapted the original Honda switched by milling two exit holes for the cables so I can keep the original look switch gear and starting to get back to that 70’s look

Plan now is to finish off my tank and side panel respray, fit new decals and run her for the summer while I sort out the fairing which now currently is hung up on the garage wall

Catch up again soon and stay safe all

Best wishes Al

Hi Phil

Yes I use this aluminium extrusion for lots of builds at work so always have some spare off cuts left over for home projects and keeps the fairing nicely out the way while I sort out other projects

Best wishes Al

Hi all

Well that’s the next part of the jigsaw fitted

Lovely single seat from  good old US of A and no custom charge

Was a bit pricey but it’s made to fit seat that keeps  the original hinge and catch’s so a straight swap but keeping the under seat access

As Del Boy would say lovely chubley
