F1 OR k6
« on: January 22, 2010, 06:05:59 PM »
Can anyone tell me if the F1 engine is the same as the k6, the reason i ask is i have just scored myself a cheap complete engine, The number is cb750E 2546??? i forgot the last few numbers and cant be bothered to go to the shed,  the honda chopper site has the same numbers for k6 and F1 engines,

OK Pete according to my US id guide its a 76F which started CB750E-2515094 whilst the K6 started CB750E 2428762. Also to be a K6 it would have to be an import i think as we in UK went straight from K2 to  K7

We had K2, K6, K7 Bryan.

The question was - is the K6 engine the same as the F1 (or will it fit)?

The guy i got the engine off said it was 76/77 and was bought as a spare for his F1, the reason i bought it was because as i am restoring my F2 i am always looking for parts, then all of a sudden a real cheap F1 engine comes up for sale, i have in the  back of my mind keeping it for a spare if the F2 engine is as bad as a few people say (although i know they are not) i also have a K8 bottom end , i am told this is the same as an F2 so there is another question.
As i have aquired so many parts lately i have decided on a cafe racer as a second project, so as i am building my first project i am already obssesing about my next one , SHIT!!! i have got it real bad  for the love of god some one please stop me before i have a f---ing garage full of them. The silly thing is i have never ridden one of these 750 Hondas, there is every chance i wont even like them.

Cafe racer project, way to go Pete !
If you have never ridden a SOHC before then don't expect to be blown away by it, I was fortunate enought to have owned a few of these in my youth and then 30 years later  I bought my project bike and rode it home, erm, not as sharp as my rose tinted memory would have had me believe but then if you wanted speed and handling then you would buy a modern bike.

Yes I have modern bikes, my FZ1 is tuned right up and has 151BHP at rear wheel, when you hit about 5000 revs the front will come right up in the air even if your doing 100 mph Proper seat of the pants stuff, on the other extreme i have a honda dax 70 , i am not expecting anything mind blowing from the cb, the cafe racer really appeals to me. below are pictures of the two mentioned bikes plus a picture off the USA site i am using for inspiration on the cafe project

Peter...this was the first version of my 750F2 update before I fitted the fairing...

I liked the bike like this but the female passengers didn't as they would get the windblast...hence the next step was the cut down 3/4 Rickman fairing.

Pete, the cafe racer inspiration pic looks great, hope mine turns out to be half as nice as that.

I still do modern although some may argue that my Harley is modern ! never thought I would ever get a Harley but the XR1200 changed my mind and it's a blast to ride. Also in the pic is my Gixer thou, sadly I have sold that now to fund the cafe racer project. And with a bit of photoshop that is me on both bikes.
