F1 rear wheel alignment
« on: May 23, 2021, 11:38:54 AM »
Hi I'm in the process of renovating my 1977 CB750 F1, after having wheels rebuilt I tried to fit the rear wheel although it slots into the swing arm and I can get the axle bolt in ok the disc is just rubbing the inner side of the caliper and the wheel is out of alignment favouring the N/S . I have checked all spacers are seated correctly and also replaced the wheel bearings just in case the previous owner ( a bit of a bodger) had fitted the wrong bearings but I couldn't see anything wrong.

Has anyone else come across this problem as I'm completely baffled I just can't work out what is wrong.

Are the bearings fully seated ?
Just had a look and there was a recent question about the same thing

I've check the old bearings and they were seated so I replaced with new and made sure they were seated correctly but still the same problem.

I'm almost tempted to take a couple of mm of the top hat spacer but that would be a last resort!

The bearing behind the locking ring will almost certainly be the culprit. Remove the locking ring and tap the bearing home (ONLY on the outside race!) and you will notice a change in the sound when you hit it and it's fully home. And Do Not machine anything of the spacer, it will not solve the issue!

If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Thanks for the input, I will try and knock the bearing a little harder to see if solves the problem.

I won't try to bodge it, sheer desperation set in for a moment.

I can't get back on it until next week but will let you know if I can resolve the problem.

I thought I would give an update on my rear wheel alignment issue. A big whack with a bigger hammer thankfully solved the problem just as you chaps thought. I must be getting limp wristed in my old age.
