Chain lube

Prompted by suggestions in florence’s post I can highly recommend Castrol “Chain Lube Racing” or similar products.
I’m not sure if it has wax or lithium but once dried it doesn’t fling off as easily as oil and doesn’t seem to attract as much build up of deposits, particularly in my road bike gears.

It's a good tip to apply chain lube straight after a ride, while the chain is warm. It lets it run into the links easier. Next ride it has fully dried on and less likely to fling.
Bought some cheap chain lube once and this was the only way I could use it.

I second the Castrol chain wax, great product and doesn't fling.
I always apply a quick squirt directly after getting home and before the bike goes back into the garage. The Castrol wax never drips onto the floor once applied.

About 20 plus years ago I remember buying a tin off melting chain grease, heat up soak chain and hang up to cool, as far as I can remember that is the only lube on the chain still. But to be fair although I have run the Matchless every year it is only a few dry runs annually. Cant remember what the stuff was called but it was recommended at that time. Now I have WD40 chain wax which seems to be fine. Big difference of course if your running every day all year round, which I am not.

We were admiring a Matchless G11 a visitor rode to Brooklands a few weeks ago. Same family for about 67 years, purring engine never apart, says something about quality!

Linklife I think it was called, great stuff for mucking up your Mother's gas hob when you pulled the chain slowly out of the bubbling, moulton can and the end of it would flick around like a snakes tail dripping everywhere!

Those of you that know me will realise I won't be able to stop myself from saying, Scottoiler at this point.  I have one on my 500 and it is simply brilliant.

Mine is placed where the air filter used to be so you can't even see it. 

(Replacing the air filter with individual filters is a controversial subject but set up correctly and with non-standard exhaust, bigger main jets, mine runs great.)
