Tappet adjusment from scratch
« on: July 08, 2021, 08:55:01 PM »
Just resetting the tappet clearance gaps after replacing the valve stem seals so all of the gaps are way to big at the moment and will need adjusting. I’ve Set the timing onto the 1-4 mark so how do you know which cylinder either 1 or 4 needs there tappets adjusting first.

I’ve reset the tappet clearances on this Cb350f before, but that was only when they needed a minor adjustment.

Hope you can understand the question

Yes, understand what you mean.

It should solve itself as you can never set them too tight whichever point the crankshaft is set.  If a valve should be open and you set clearance,  then as you rotate the crankshaft to do the opposing set it will show as way too much gap and you'll need to reset that one.

You'll probably not be able get a feeler gauge anywhere sensible toward a a rocker thats lifted to be open anyway.

Rotate backwards and forwards over the T mark whist hold up the rocker ends on either 1 or 4 if you feel movement adjust the other pair if not adjust them, same for 2&3
