Gearbox selector forks - do they look right
« on: July 12, 2021, 12:16:13 PM »
Last night whilst trying to nod off I started to worry about having put the middle selector fork in the right way around as I start my rebuild.
This is not helped by trying to rotate images in my head when a picture is taken from the front of the engine casing - classic overthinking!

I could not find a photo from when I stripped it down but did check it against a photo I had of Nurse Julie's 400 rebuild that looks the same.
My manuals do not seem to show it clearly - the Honda Manual on sohc is great for the left & right selector but the centre one is not that clear.

Can someone please confirm I have them in the correct position....?

Never dug that deep into the 'works' yet, but saw this on Fleabay if it's any use mate.

You only have to drop the shafts with gears on into the casing to find out

So if it's the wrong way around the gears will not fit.
That's okay as they fit quite easily!

Looking at it again if it was the other way around the fork would sit all wrong - I'm overthinking & worrying since having to strip back for the stripped bolt fiasco.

If it was the wrong way round the peg would not locate in the selector drum track
You are correct of course its obvious when you say it our loud. In my head I was thinking the slight offset would be on the wrong side but in fact it just would not fit.
