Tensioner horseshoe saddle clips question ?

I had not noticed when I removed my old saddle clip but looking at the new one (& then at the old one) they are not symetrical being slightly thicker on one edge.

My Manuals & a quick trawl through NJ's rebuild does not mention which way round they should fit fit can anyone here advise me please as I failed to notice when I levered out the old one?

Ive looked for extraction marks on the old one but none are visible.

I'm pretty sure Mr Honda made them to go in one way round - looking at a video of the DS expensive alloy Hoseshoe upgrade it appear the thinner section is on the longer side of the horseshoe if that makes sense?

Hi 4wDaz yes it is that's the opposite way round to the one on the U tube video as it has the thicker part next to the tongue on the outside.

So which one is right yours presumably ?

Just went to put mine in the other way around & found that as my casing is presently upside down ready to secure  the two retaining bolts - discovered it had fallen out!

The DS one is certainly softer than the one I removed that was hard with age - got me thinking can it pull out when fitting the tensioner blade in place ?

Is it worth a dab of Hondabond on the inside where it seats ?

Only reason I've not tightened yet it is I wanted to cheque the Torque figures if there is a specific one - I'm guessing it will be around 6-7 ft lbs as its steel into alloy ?

Looked at mine today and the thin side is next to the tang, I can't imagine it has ever been changed. Unlike the photos above, which show a lot of wear, mine looks much more intact. It is quite hard to the touch, feels like thermoset plastic rather than rubber.

Mine didn't feel soft or like rubber at all 🤔 I was almost inclined at the time to think it was made from a metal of some sort but settled on it being a very hard type of plastic. Mine was fine, no damage or cracks, so I didn't replace it. I think I may have fitted a new top one though.
It can't fall out when in situ Ted as it is being pushed down by the blade.

Hi NJ I was thinking as you insert the blade could it be accidently pulled out when trying to find the horseshoe slot if it's difficult to see down the inside of the engine as you fit it - quite understand your point once it is engaged in the clip.

So as to the right way round the score is 2:1 so far groan...... probably does not really matter but Honda must have had a reason to make it asymetrical ?

I wonder what Trigger does when he replaces them?

As I am close to fastening up the crankcase halves part of me thinks I should fit the DS alloy unit that I think is supplied  by TTR400 in SA simply because it would stay free for much longer - the clip is still probably not included.
