Main bearings.
« on: July 19, 2021, 02:33:29 PM »
Apologies in advance. Just for my reassurance the cases are marked CCCC and all webs marked A1.

I presume there’re that I need all brown shells? Crank is measured at very minimal wear, so I intend to simply replace the shells as I’m no judge of what is visually acceptable in terms of wear indication :-\

Or do I do as stated in the manual and disregard the case and crank markings. I’m sure I have read elsewhere on this site that the case and web markings can be used reliably…just asking.

Have you missed a crankcase letter off? - ie, there is 5 main bearings. Also, crank should be numbers only - the letter will be big end. If cases are all C and crank all 1, then yes, you need all Brown.
On all my builds, I've only ever fitted new bearings based on chart (although journals all appeared visually fine).
When fitting con rods, make sure 'key' on bearing faces the exhaust - if you havn't already read it, see Honda manual page 49 (in Alladins Cave)

Yes, sorry. A typo. Definitely 5 letters…all C’s, just like my school reports.

Out of interest, would you know the part no, I can’t make head nor tail of the CMNSL shell ids.

Thanks for the reassurance. Next rod shells.

Sorry Philward. Yes, all big ends are marked ‘A’.Yes thanks…read the shop manual, hence the comment on “disregard the case markings’. All clear now. Type ‘B’ shell.

Webs and rods are marked A2, so I take this to mean ‘green’. Type ‘C’ shell.

Thanks both.

Now to get the wallet out.

That’s impressive  8).

Now the big self analysis question…do I or don’t I. The big ends and mains look mighty fine with just the usual load marks on the shells..ho hum. I’m tempted not to disturb the rods as they have no signs of play.

If you are doing a 100% resto replace, if you are doing it to use i would put back what you have as long as you know the exact position they came from
