Is this another Ebay bad deal
« on: February 27, 2010, 02:18:48 PM »
Don't want to mention any names here but I saw some 'K0/Sandcast' tank trims go on Ebay for over 80 quid last week.

Looking into history I saw purchase of mini car trim (as I suggested as a substitute for the original item  http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php?topic=2464.0)

The K0 / Sandcast does not have the black stripes in it. (interestingly the 'Brighton Show' bikes I think did have the black stripes)

The mini trim in the 'history' was:

Bit cheaper than 80 quid !! and would be enough for several tanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, I dub thee 'Columbo' (best TV detective ever IMHO).

Would that Mini trim work on a K7 tank ? Is it self-gripping, or does one use glue of some kind ?

Not sure on K7 tank trim - never actually seen it on the bike. Perhaps someone else knows.
I did the same bit of detective work on a really nice K0 that went for 10k last year, he too had bought mini trim but the bike was spot on and probably  worth the money if you looked into the detail. If you look into a sellers history it can reveal sources of parts (like in the US/germany) that you may normally  overlook (like a cb250 camchain for a 750 or an oval UK rear lamp from a Honda C50/Cd175)

I also saw someone bid 150+ plus for the tank trim with the black stripes which was NOS Genuine Honda on Ebay recently. You can still buy this brand new from David Silver for a fraction of that price.

Always bid with a very healthy dollop of sceptisism on ebay, I very often see stuff that I'm 90% sure the seller has bought streight off silvers, added a bit for himself to the price and then listed on the 'bay. Other thing I've found is I'm sorry to say breakers selling the useless bits like oil starved cylinder heads as spares with a camshaft - not included covering up the utterly destroyed camshaft bearings in the picture, in particular  beware if they say it looks ok but they reserve jugement as they aren't familiar with the bike it was off. Aparently the seller of that little jem thought that the valves and collets were a good deal for the price...........
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

I'm sure you folks already know this, but there are sellers flogging the exhaust warning stickers (and a bunch of others) for the 750's for upwards of three quid plus postage.

Like a lot of other bits, they're still available from the big H for around a

The following are almost certainly available from Honda direct (and at a fraction of eBay prices).

1; Made in Japan - 87125-041-680 - headstock

2; Engine oil - 87125-300-010 - oil tank cover

3; Exhaust Caution - 87504-028-670 - swing arm/chain guard

4; Helmet holder - 87511-323-670 - under seat

5; Preserve Nature (black text) - 87560-323-670ZA - tank above filler cap

6; Preserve Nature (white text) - 87560-323-670A - tank above filler cap

7; Preserve Nature (European later type) - 87560-375-680ZE - tank above filler cap

8; Tyre Caution - 87505-341-670 - rear fender

(see picture below)

Unobtainable direct from Honda

(Note: although only one number is listed, the original sticker was in two pieces. Two types of repros are available - one is a large single sticker; the other is as the original two-piece)

9; Battery Caution - 87506-425-770 - plastic rear fender under seat

(see picture below)

Unobtainable direct from Honda

CMSNL do their own kit - =http://www.cmsnl.com/products/0617d-300-030-cb750k_cb750setsticker/ - sorry, dunno what's in that one

Silvers do a couple of different kits - the contents vary (depending on which bike - K0/K1/K2 etc - and which supplier they buy them in from) but the one for my K2 looked like this:

Don't get stung, folks.
