Power = Volts x Amps.

100w/12V= 8A….which is a lot for the small CSA cable and connections on these elderly bikes.

Yes, but at 14,3 V amps is less than 7A ofcourse. Fuse never blew.

Indeed. 7/8 amps it’s a trivial difference. A fuse has what we call ‘coarse’ protection characteristics and will carry around 130% to 140% of its nominal amp rating for between2 and 4 hours before it open/blows. Trouble is a high impedance joint will Sink that energy and that’s why we get burnt wiring and connections without the fuse blowing.
