Crank case paint, again!!
« on: December 04, 2021, 02:34:42 PM »
Sorry, another paint question. Anyone on this forum used AutoTek sliver/grey VHT engine paint for their crank cases. Tried the Simoniz aluminum VHT on the barrels and it seems a bit to bright for my liking.

Sorry, iv’e not used that product. I thought the same about the simoniz, but having assembled the whole engine and  fitted in place it seems to dull down, but remain ‘fresh’ looking.

Interesting!!  I may just get a can and give it a go, maybe on the cambox breather cover, something easy to strip the paint off should it look crap or is affected by a few drops of petrol!! Unless anybody comes up with a bad experience with this paint.

The Simoniz SIMVHT31D is the closest colour to factory finish we have ever found.

Must admit looks nicer in the frame than the engine sat alone on the bench.  On scrolling through the parts list on Dave Silver site, they actually sells this Autotek paint in Silver/grey??

Haven't actually sprayed the cases yet, just the barrels and as yet there just air dried. Is the paint your using the Simonize Silver or the Alluminum finish??

At least you stopped and questioned it when you were unsure.

Another question for "the nurse", once oven cured is the paint petrol resistant??

Highly petrol resistant but not totally petrol proof but then we've never found any paint that is 100% petrol proof. If you soak your painted engine in Petrol, eventually the paint will lift. Any dribbles of fuel, just wipe off, and the paint will be fine.

Has anybody done CeraKote

Thinking of doing my cases in clear or silver as they at the moment are still bare due to other distractions such as the rear disc conversion

Is meant to be the biz as lots of the rd boys used this for their exhausts so really good for high temps and super tough and totallly fuel proof
