Hinge pivot pin.

Evening. Hope you all had a nice Christmas. Sorry but I have another question that is probably totally obvious to all of you. I’ve read that it’s a good idea to strip, clean and grease the front brake calliper hinge pivot pin. I was thinking of doing it soon but was wondering how easy is it to get it off and do the job ? What do I need to dismantle to get access to it. Thanks in advance. Chris.

If you remove the caliper,

You can then see how easy the alloy bracket moves,

If it is stiff,just remove the large bolt and the 2 smaller top bolts,.

The pivot pin just pulls out,

Clean and grease,

There are O rings, check them,

It's easier if the wheel is out, but can be done otherwise.

If tight, the pin may need drifting out.
With bracket off you can turn the top bracket, rest it on the to of vice jaws and CARFULLY drift out the pin from top bracket then work main bracket off pin, clean pin and holes up shiney grease well and reassemble. It has been known for people to drill and tap pivot arm to fit a grease nipple but strippling, cleaning and greasing every couple of years is best.

Thanks Bryan. I think I will stick to stripping and greasing as i don’t have the skills to fit grease nipples. Good idea though.
