Whilst its nice to have shiny bits on the bikes and I do prefer that, with 10 bikes I have gotten used to some bikes needing cosmetic attention but are in good mechanical condition and running fine.
Producing a "show queen" is going to cost a fortune.  Its is a shame that its cheaper to get a repo item rather that repair/re-chrome the original.  I doubt that will change in the future either.

well I bought a repo front mudguard. Looks ok, bit of a bugger to fit as the stays seem to be a bit too long.

Slacken off the top screws, the 2 pairs on the outside of the guard, you should then find it goes on OK.
