Have recently bought a Sandcast ‘750; a policy my dad left me matured, and it was a no-brainer whether to squander it on bills and crap, or use it as a nice reminder of him. Anyways, found this restored ‘750, engine and frame numbers late 4000s / early 5000s. Having initially planned to ride it, that plan has changed as I’ve the K2, besides which keeping the two mint will be a bridge too far. (of course this might change)

And on a further win, Mrs Lobo has relented and allowed me to keep it in our downstairs sitting room - so a huge result there.

…. I take a cuppa down and just gaze at it - so very sad 😂

What a lovely bike and way to remember your Dad. I have a snooker cue with a plaque on the case, not quite the same really.

But Lobo, you really have to get out and use the bike, on a warm summer day without a cloud in the sky obviously. If you leave it in the house you just traded one investment for another, it needs to enter shows at the very least where people can see it.

What's the bike your Dad's on, looks a bit like a Matchless but the tank badge doesn't look right for that?

Beautiful looking bike, I'm amazed that back in the day nutters like me just thrashed them around like there was no tomorrow, mine sat out in the front garden in all weathers.

Stunning bike and I agree with you, what's the use of keeping the money in the bank, the only people who will benefit from that are the bankers who lend your money out at a high rate and give you peanuts in return.
I'm with Roy though, you need to ride it on Sunny days as a treat.

Since joining this forum nearly 10 yrs ago I’ve been confused as to how folk could own a bike… and yet not ride it. Embarrassing really, but advises taken on board, and yep, hopefully one day I’ll take it out.
Roy, honestly, I was hoping someone here might enlighten me as to my dad’s machine;  he did once tell me but I don’t recall it being anything memorable as it was driven by ‘funds available’ to him at the time vs a passion for the particular machine.
Phil… I had to choose a quiet moment Mrs Lobo was out; bloody nail-biting. I’ve put the bike on a 5mm x 300x400 SS plate, sandwiched with 6mm rubber one side and carpet tile the other, but hey, it’s still 240Kg on one tile. On this note, why the hell is a Sandcast 235Kg versus 218Kg for my K2…. honestly it was the first thing I noticed getting it home.
As an aside, I now live in Oz, and had the choice of 2 such Sandcasts within a 30 km radius. Furthermore, there’s a nucleus of 5 owners in said radius, with about 7 concours Sandcasts. The local restorer (James / Trigger rolled into one) has done about 7 Sandcast complete restorations in the last few years, and many more K0s, K1s and the odd K2.
For approx £14000 (GBP) I was offered a 1969 Diecast (Gold) in showroom condition, or for approx £11000 a 1970 K1 (Green) ditto. It’s been an eye-opener; I’d never have believed it… and keep musing whether there’s some export business to be had.
But then again, exporting my bikes ex UK with shipping / customs /  Asbestos declarations / you name it / kinda looses one the will to live.

There is a guy called Kerry (KP) in Oz who is one of the Sandcast Only forum site aficionados.
 
Keeping it indoors 'eh. So I guess it wont be  "Another tank of gas and back on the road again"  If you still have Boo make sure it doesn't pee on that rolled rear rim  Work it out !

Ha! … yep Ash, indeed that’s where I got the moniker.

I have delved a fair bit (as a guest) into the Sandcast Forum, but tbh get the impression it’s heyday was 8-10 yrs ago; the current postings are now around 5/day. I honestly don’t believe the bikes are the ‘investment’ we’d like them to be; James will know better, but in my research I noted prices over the past few years have (generally) been in decline. The asking prices of both mine and the one I rejected were significantly higher than what I reckoned … I simply went away, viewed all the (worldwide) restored Sandcast sales I could find over the past 2 years … and averaged them out. That was what I offered.
This all said, my Sandcast comes with no provenance, which is a shame.

Still though, very happy to have this piece of modern art / history in my living room….

(Sesman  … Jan ‘24 a way off, but look me up nearer the time; always a bed if ya need it, and hey, I might have a spare kitchen tile!)

PS… I’ve been thinking of collecting / hanging 1969 Apollo 11 stuff above it, but ‘just the looks’ told me enough was enough 😂. (I was 11 yo and watched the landing in a school assembly - powerful memories there)

Ha,ha. Yes, 2024 is indeed a long way off, but doesn’t time fly in your 50’s and 60’s?

Apollo 11: yes, we watched the landing in school assembly too. Our class master, Mr Gowland, insisted. His enthusiasm inspired many of his charges to a life long interest in all things space. I remember him taking a group of us to an Astronomy Society meeting in York, where the Big Bang theory was presented. Can you imagine….we were just 9 years old.🤔🤨. Boy, was he ambitious. An absolutely first rate teacher, sportsman and decent human being (RIP).

You never know, I might just drop in for a cuppa and to admire that machine….and the floor tiles.

Does look lovely in the house. Seems selfish but I’d leave it and just invite your mate(s) round for a coffee. I’m still seeking to get one of mine in, but at least we have an integral garage.
To remember my Dad I would have to invest in a Raleigh moped and it wouldn’t be quite the same. The Apollo landing was in the evening and the walk about 6 hours later and remember doing my paper round after a couple of hours sleep.
