How to remove rocker arms?
« on: February 19, 2022, 02:41:12 PM »
Hey all

Got the new cover, with the 4 extra screws holding the rocker arms in place. Have unscrewed the bolts, and tried tapping down on the uncovered screws. They are not budging, like not even a little, which makes me think I might be doing it wrong? Can anyone advice in which direction to tap, to loosen the rocker arms?

They get incredibly tight and you hit on the thread end

So basically hit them from the top and directly down, and just really hard and a lot?

But put the nut back on at least 3/4 before you hit it. Apply a little heat to. It worked for me. Make sure the cam cover is evenly supported too. But I’m sure you are on to all this.

I used a large pin punch so the hammer hit that and not the pin directly. A bit of heat never goes amiss either.

A nut put onto the threads is a good idea as stated, that way if you accidentally damage the thread the nut coming off can straighten them again.

Did the nut on, and a lot of heat. But damn. Really had to go to town with a hammer on those. One of the screws even bended a bit. But they got off!

My god, these old machines. Literally everything is stuck on them.
