Bar end mirrors for 400 any recommendations ?
« on: April 03, 2022, 01:33:35 PM »
The mirrors that came in a box of bits with the bike are clearly not fully original.  One is marked Hawk Japan that looks like an original, the second has a very short arm with an adjustable base swivel.  On most of my previous bikes that had mirrors fitted they gave me a great view of my shoulder so I'm going for bar end mirrors as my garage is wide enough for me not to catch them.

The inside diameter of my bars are 19 mm or thereabouts has anyone here used a brand that they can recommend please?

I put one on the 400 from the Motogadget range from Revival Cycles in the states, it's polished aloooominum so noi glass. Fits and looks beautiful but it was pricey and was a treat as a birthday prezzie for the 'LH General'.

Worth a look as theyre engineering masterpieces. Louis moto do them also from Germany and direct from Motogadget, also over there.

bestest regards Ted, the bike's looking mint mate,

You could try these Ted.

I have them on my CB1300 and they give a much better view. Get some caps for the socket bolts though or they collect water and starts to rust.

The attached (hopefully!) pic. is my bike fitted with Halcyon items. Made in UK, stainless steel, easy to fit, and don't vibrate. Now have to carry a photo of my elbows as have forgotten what they look like. regards, Mike.

PS Ted. Also the Halcyon ones are equipped with a sprung cam fitting so you can just click the inwards when in the shed/garage/parking.

👍+1 with the Halcyon mirrors, quality item and the sprung cam fitting is a boon if you are filtering in close traffic and parking in a crowded space.

One more vote for Halcyon mirrors. High quality mirrors,  not like a lot of the cheapos on the market.

You link comes back to me as a riser, I've found some for 7/8th to 1" o/d not sure this will fit the 400 as the i/d is 19mm?
Do folk use plain or Convex I preffer plain?

Found these they look tidy in black https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311843938113?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Oberon is a great manufacturer, had a few bits off them over the years. Really nice!

The problem with bar end mirrors is that it can reduce your ability to filter through traffic, if you touch a car with them it's also much more likely to spill you onto the floor. Normal mirrors being higher up don't have these problems.

Interesting point you make Ken tbh I've never riden with bar end mirrors. The mirrors on my old XJ were 50% of the road  behind plus 50% of my jacket. Only time I clipped a car when weaving between traffic lanes I clipped an offside door mirror as I did a low speed wobble. I might re-think the originals or a DS copy if there okay. I only need one.
