Rediscovering my youth
« on: May 23, 2010, 07:25:45 PM »
You know what its's like. You're sat in the pub on the many'th pint of the evening before retiring to the tent and the conversation heads along the "I always loved my 400/4. It would be great to get one again" route.
This time however a reply is forthcoming "I know where there is one you can have and it's free". Anyway the next morning it appears I hadn't dreamed the whole thing and so yesterday, 4 weeks later, I went and picked up the bike in question and here it is....

It's been stored outside for at least the last 6 years but was apparently running (not brilliantly).
Lots to do but no rush so let the fun begin.....

Hi and welcome. Good story, looks like you've got some fun ahead (unles next time you're in a tent, clutching beer, someone says "I've always fancied a 400/4...")  :D

I wish that someone would give me an almost complete CB550 Honda. I had my first SOHC four back in 1978 and I had some really good times (& a few bad ones) on it before it was stolen.

So keep the photos coming together with the updates on the project, and welcome to the site.

Fantastic, great to hear that this type of things really happens, I'm convinced that there are thousands  of bikes sitting in UK sheds/garages and gardens.

Cheers

We need to organise some sort of bike amnesty! I've seen a lot of bikes on eBay in a terrible state that have obviously been dragged out of someone's shed, they set a ridiculously high reserve and don't sell. They probably get dragged back into the shed again where they turn into a pile of rust! If only people would pass them on. Congratulations on the free bike ;D

welcome.  Looks great to me, not much to do.  Apart from the oxidisation on the engine it looks in better condition than my 500/4 and I use that daily.
