Hi all aim on my forced FIA 2 week hols just now so i can get on with more work on the F2.
I have done some on it since i last updated this page.
Frame done, swingarm done main stand done, rear wheel 4/5th's done, plus a few other small things.
I have had the rear shocks taken apart at work in the shock bay as the have all the kit to take shocks apart, and they said they are shot only good for scrap, so looks like new shocks, or plan 1 i have a set of Hagons on the other F2 i have that is a long way of being finished so could use them or plan 2 could get the Marzocchi ET 85's that i had fitted years ago to the other F2 repair ie seal kit Mdina Italia up in Yorkshire have these kits at about

Even more the foot peg brackets and air box top brackets done just need to put back togeather now.
The batt box finished got the Electronics's  bay to put some heat shrink and padding on this not bad.
Now to get more done, i shall try to get the obligatory cupper in the next lot off shots  :D.

Looks good so far, though watching all this activity seems to be something of a substitute far doing something on my own bikes.

One of the mods we used to do on these bikes in their prime was to replace the lock stops on the lower fork clamp with a larger square block welded on as they break really easily and even a simple fall from a side stand can dent the tank as it runs so close to the back of the legs / handlebars.

It's good to see the whole build taking place, thanks for your efforts in showing us.

Hi Interesting i have never had that happen to me, Ive dropped one down the road a few times and it's fallen off the stand a few times.
I have noticed that the tank can move forward if not fitted right could be part of the problem.
Yes i was like you for a long time not getting on and starting doing the bike, then a a few of the lads at work have being doing up bikes / track bikes. I keep ed on saying that i have one and they just jeeped on at me to start so i did, i started this one (took them 6 years to get me started) i still have one more to finish which will get done once this one is complete .
The one that is on hold is the one i have had since 1979 the one in my Avatar thats a bigger projected.
I have got just a few things done today, wheel last bit of paint on it, and i have cleaned up the disc ready for painting and cleaned up all the spacers an spindle plus a few small brackets got ready for painting hopefully tomorrow. then more bits to sort never ending.
I will post more photos later on friday.

I guess the original shocks were not of a high end spec anyway, they did the job and I thought they weren't too bad compared to others at the time but by no means a precision spec that we may be used to now. I would have thought that they're worth keeping in stock if not serviceable just because they represent an orignal part of the bike.

You say that you had someone look at them at work who thought they'd had it, it's likely that they would say the same for a spec like that when new anyway as they just would not match up to any critical current appraisal anyway, spose things move on like that!

That looks like a Yoshimura pipe in your heading photo? always liked that design for SOHC 750's, just really neat looking, Bubadel also has the same on his one elsewhere on this site.

Hi All
Tim thanks ref the shocks, i aim doing this one up as close to Oreg spec as i can. They would go on the other F2 when i get around to finishing it as this has not been Oreg spec since i have had it since 1979 and has changed over the years, if you still have them when i get around to finishing it i poss would take them off you thanks.
The ET 85's with a little stripping of paint and re paint/polishing would not be far of the mark.
The old ones i shall keep just for ref and one or two bits are OK. The shocks have no oil left in them and are sealed so can't be refilled that is what they mean by shot fit for scrap, the springs are fine they said.
Yes that is a  Yoshi i got that one from Dave Dixon (spoke to the man him self he told me how to up jet the carbs and the set up for it) at the Jan bike show in London at the halls in SW1 in 1980. It has run Yoshi's since the last one a black one has just fallen apart with the rust monster mite be able to sort it ?. Will look for a new one if i can find one these days. I have looked on the Yoshi web site but not any thing on it ref older bikes, they sound great quite at tick over they have a one off sound then still quieter at low rpm as soon as you hit about 5500rpm they start to come alive and at full chat music  8).
Used to come out of the camp gates and blat it down the A 15 towards Lincoln,or on the way back, the blokes on the gate allways knew when we were on our way a GS 750 all so with a Yoshi, a Rickman Z900 no back pipe fitted just straight pipes a Triumph 750 with megs on it, Z650 stan pipes GS 550 Stan pipes plus a Gt550 Trip doing the smoke screen act and a CBX 1000  with six in to six think they were marshalls or was it Marvin's they where load any away, them were the days ;D
Yes Bubadels bike has the same Yoshi on it as mine.

Ref Yoshi Pipe - look at this site www.cb750cafe.com.  Ex pat brit who runs the business, Carpy, "as he is known in the trade", supposedly does a close replica. They also seem cheap enough but then import duties / vat?

Tim

One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....
