My F2 Rebuild
« on: May 23, 2010, 08:32:51 PM »
Hi All this is what i have been doing over the last few weeks. My plan was this year just to sort out the engine i.e. do the valves and cam-chain and re paint and fit new tyres as this is all i thought i need to do when i put the bike in the shed a while back, so it took a few dry w/e to sort the shed out as i could not get to the bike or have any room to work on it god did i collect some junk.

This done i then got the bike out in to the daylight for the first time in a few years.

I then spent the next few days slowly taken it apart, not too much trouble no broken studs or bolts of my making found a few that others had done, the exhaust clamp had one bolt snapped off and the sump plate had been changed as it was not black so a replacement one and they had snapped of one bolt head thankfully there is a lot of the bolt left so hopefully should get it out with out to much trouble (here

Thats looking good paul, well done for getting stuck in, the bike looks pretty good condition so hopefully you wont have to spend a fortune on it, saying that when you start on the engine its very hard to know where to draw the line renewing  and reusing bits, thats where allot of the money seems to dissapear

Check valve stem to guide play, especially on exhaust side, as thats the BIG wear bug with F2/3

Just a quick up date, aim on Hols this week so have plans to get as much done as i can.Today i stripped the paint of the frame, next i shall sand the rust of the frame then paint it as the weather looks good for the rest of the week i should have this done by Sat i hope ??.
When i tried to take the main stand of i had a bit of a fight with it, could only get the pivot a small way out, so out came the anglegrinder and job done, looks like i had the same problem years ago as the part number is ticked in my parts book a look at the other bike and yes new pivot fitted.
More when i get it done.

Hi not a lot done today, got the undercoat on the frame 2 large cans used. This could be the most paint thats been on the frame by the small amount i took of with paint stripper, and there is still the black to go hope to get this done by late Saturday.
The swinging arm is next striped it, now to de-rust it then paint.
The main stand is started a lot of rust on this should take me about a hour to sort it then paint.
The fumes are not as bad(or good) as the old paint and paint stripper used to be, our them where the days, only now have to watch out for spray that gets blown back over me as now my specks get covered only need them for reading and close work now did not have this prob last time i did a bike up in the last century>
Till next time
