Battery with 200 CCA?
« on: August 25, 2022, 07:41:56 AM »
Hey

Read on the US forum that it would be preferable with a battery with at least 200 CCA if using the electric starter. My current battery has 165 but is getting a little long in the tooth, so wanted to get a new one. I have not been able to find one in the right size though with 200 CCA. What do you guys run, and why?

You don't need them. In the US market quantity means quality. The Yuasa I run now is the YB12A-A. It claims to have more CCA than the conventional 12N12A-4A-1. But the next one will be the old type again. First of all: you don't need extra CCA. If your bike doesn't start within some 7 seconds, better stop trying. There will be a cause that needs to be adressed. Moreover, our bikes have a kickstart as back-up. The old type 12N12A-4A-1, costs € 3,- more (!) than the newer type YB12A-A... The extra CCA the YB has, means thinner plates than the old type has. Less robust than the old type on bumpy roads.
