Right, heres a random one for you.

I have several tropical tanks that a couple of times a year need a bit of  a 'hair cut' as they get a bit mental and they block the lamps light into the water.
I'm on for one in the next few days but dont want to throw away all the floating plants that I dont need as theyre too good and would cost a few quid if I had to replace them from ebay or the shop.
The small one is Amazon Fogbit or Limnobium laevigatum the big ones are, Pistia stratoites .

I use them predominantly as Nitrate sponges meanng that I dont have to do water changes and just top ups. Nice and easy and no upheaval faffing about with buckets etc. the hanging roots are great in the tank and the shrimps and fish always hang about in them which is great cover. The Neons will even spawn given a big enough temp drop they find it that comfortable. Anyway, waffle, waffle.

If you want some FOC drop me a pm and I'll bob some in the post. First come first serve. Cant be bothered to put em on ebay and thought some of the lovely forum folk might want  some for their own tanks if any of you have any?

Nice tank Roo. Used to work in an Aquarium shop as a cheap way of getting fish. I was mad on barbs at the time, with my favourites being Tinfoil barbs, I had some massive examples.

We had some Piranhas and a couple of big Oscars in different tanks.

I'm a tetra nut Ken, I have loads of types but love cardinals, blacks and neons really, they're wicked things.
I've had huge fish in the past (up to 8lb in tanks) but you spend more time looking after them than enjoying them so keep it small-ish these days and concentrate on the smaller stuff and keep the tanks in a way so that everythings in scale.
I  set this one up 5 weeks ago and the smaller one about a month ago both from dry tanks. They've gone mental this time and I got my plant % a bit lean so they've multiplied like crazy to catch up, hence the excess now.

Not bothered about saltwater tanks, far too much faff, these little ones look after themselves 95% of the time.

I love Clown Loach - Chromobotia macracanthus.

They behave like a shoal fish when young eventually turning into a nocturnal fish that hides wherever it can in an aquarium.

My current tropical tank is in what was built as a fish house annex to my garage. Its very well insulated with supplementary winter heating by means of a night storage heater.
The fish house is now part garage office so is a space where I can work on small bike items in the winter. Even on Economy seven I might have to move my smaller tank back into the house with the daft energy prices.
