CB400/1100 ! on ebay
« on: September 03, 2022, 04:01:02 PM »
I can't post the link ... tablet isn't very user friendly, but the auction site has a 400 superdream with a Honda factory 'CB1100f lookalike' bodykit  and fairing. Not something I had ever seen before, so if anyone can find / post the l link it might be of interest?!  Seller even shows the original brochures, which seem to take the p*ss out of the whole concept. ...a bit of Honda history.

I searched Honda 400 and it came up as a result.

Thanks Ted, that's the one. I'm not sure the fairing works all that well on the Superdream, which might be wh y it didn't sell well. It's not something I had ever seen before.

The brochure says (paraphrasing) you might feel like Ron Haslam, but this fairing still won't make you go like him. Bizarre marketing!

Just because it was a sales disaster and therefore rare doesn’t make it desirable.

I can't remember that bike/brochure at the time. It looks like it has been fitted with genuine CB1100RB wheels and double disc twin piston calipers - note the brochure shows standard single disc/standard super dream wheels
Current Bikes:-
Honda CB750K2 (1975)
Honda CB500K2 (12/1972)
Honda CR750 Replica (1972)
Honda CB350K0 (1969)
Kawasaki ZZR1100D3 (1995)
Kawasaki ZZR250 (1990) Project (Going on eBay ASAP)

Later Superdreams had reverse comstars and 4 pot calipers if I recall correctly.....?

Not a good look big fairing on a smaller bike. Extra weight must have more than cancelled any aero gains.

Mate of mine in the 80's had an RD250 with flf Sheene Akai fairing kit. Ooh is was slow as a result. Looked nice enough mind.
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

Quite a good mimic of the 1100 it looks, if you check images of the two these do look like 400 sized twin disc and the calipers are mounted further down the fork leg corresponding to disc diameter too.

Convincing appearance though, but clearly didn't help sales at all  ;D

Hondastyle equipment was made by Rickman and if you look in the brocure pic you will see a single disc 250 alongside a twin disc 400. Cant remember if 400 had the calipers shown or not but it looks like the very last iteration of the 400 as i also dont remember black engines.
The 400 sold like a lead balloon covered in lemon juice so one with all the stupidley expensive kit on it has to be chromed rocking horse poo

Well I like the look of the Gold Wheels & fairing - then again I'm not renown for my sense of style!
Honda CB500 K1 (new pit dug out ready)
Honda CB400 four super sport (first money pit)
