FORK LEG RE- CHROMING
« on: September 07, 2022, 02:41:08 PM »
Hi ALL

I have just had my fork legs returned from A M Philpots in Luton ( as recommended by Julie & Graham) Wow what a fantastic service they collected them via courier all I had to do was to print off a lable for the courier and stick it on the box ready for them to collect 👍 😊,
My stanchions where mic-ing up to 34.19mm which I think from talking to others here on the forum could be why mine where always weeping slightly and as members are aware they need  to be 35mm for a CB550 / 750.
So had a chat to the managing Director of Philpots who said NP we can bring them back up to original spec of 35mm and check the trueness of them as well, They also do a rebuild service which comes with a 1 yr warranty 🤗 if needed
They use a overnight courier service which is great as I was contacted yesterday and got in my hand lunchtime today they came well packed and brought back by the same courier firm 👍

Overall very happy with the whole service and professionalism well worth the 4-5 wk wait happy to recommend them

Dynasurf in Sandbach do the same service and are cheaper, not knocking Philpots as I'm sure they are excellent but the Dynasurf turn round time is also quicker.

Philpotts have done a set for me, lead time was quicker than quoted and an excellent job was done, at 34.19 mm I should image they were leaking like the Torrey Canyon, and rattling like a pair o maracas.

I wonder if they were 34.19 where the seals slide, I'd imagine that's where it would have been. The rest should still have been 35mm.

I've only ever used Philpotts for re chroming.

Never had a need to go elsewhere. Good service, and a good product.

Hi Ken

Unfortunately the whole length of the stanchion was measuring 34.19 so I assume they been done on the cheap somewhere ?

Hi All

Just like to mention that the price Philpots quote includes courier door pick up & door drop off, They offer just re-chroming and truing and back to original Dia spec service. They also offer a full rebuild service with a 1yr warranty for piece of mind I think my package was 8.5 kgs on return so not a cheap item to ship , We live 180 old miles from Dynasurf Sandbach so at todays prices of fuel it would cost me £40-50 pounds return each round trip ....But I will certainly use Dynasurf for some of my smaller items I can post to them thanks Ken for the recommendation 👍

They are also flexible about where you pick up/drop. I had mine collected from work, as there would have been nobody in.

They advise to put the details ( name/address bike make, model and year INSIDE the package, just to make sure....along with any special instructions. That way, it's far less lilkley for your order to get mixed up. They assess the forks on arrival, and will let you know if they need more work than you might have thought.

Also, as they are a specialist in bike forks..they are not likely to fill in recesses holes or grooves that are MEANT to be there...which I have heard of happening.
