He's (Harry Overton) is on Facebook Ted. He's not far from you in Swadlincote. His work is absolutely stunning. A master of his art. 07861778841

Thanks Julie

I've sent him some pics and a message

I'd be interested to see his price, work that good isn't usually cheap. Really must get my bead blasting cabinet working, save me a ton of sanding. £500 for a decent compressor though. Maybe the January sales can help  ;D ;D

One of the casings arrived and it isn't the exact one I ordered as it is missing the two dowels and has some slight crack like marks round the plug thingy :) nothing shows the other side and apart from this is in good condition .... do I send it back or will it be OK

Thanks
Simon

They look like stress fractures.

No, they are casting marks and every clutch casing has them. It's where the alloy was injected into the mould, the plug is the result of where it was cut off the mould.

Do you need the dowels Simon? I've got quite a few stashed around somewhere. A bit of heat and a good pair of pliers and twist them out. Some get ruined as they can rust themselves into situ but 80% come out and can be reused.

I agree with Ken they look like casting marks - they tend to oil stain and look bad. It would be an odd place for a stress fracture - see if it rubs off with some medium/fine wet & dry.

They seem to be a substantial piece of steel to snap.

Ends are steel, middle is alloy, it breaks where it joins.

The alloy was for lightness, aparently the originals were steel and were heavy and caused a lag on clutch engagement
