Best solvent for final cleaning prior to painting crank cases ?
« on: November 11, 2022, 12:01:25 PM »
When I painted my 400 I brushed the crank casing surfaces with thinners, used clean absorbent paper to dab off any dirt that appeared then a final coat of thinners - when dry I Rattled Caned them - then air dried only. This time I plan to oven bake as per the paint instructions.

I have it in my mind that someone on this site mentioned using brake & clutch cleaning fluid instead  - I have a 5 litres can of that if it's better in some way ?

I had my cases acid dipped and then a used brake cleaner to remove any potential greasy fingerprints.

I've also got Cellulose Thinners so looking for the best option.
I'm thinking Thinners has the lower flash point so may leave less residue?

Automotive panel wipe doesn't leave any residue behind and is made specifically for this task
