If you sell a bike on ebay in the motorcycle section, the fee is fixed (I think it is £35) and you can send email addresses and phone numbers prior to sale. ( The listing fee is paid whether sold or not just like any mag/paper) If however, you list a bike in the spares area you can't swap info AND you will be shafted for their commission ) approx 12% to a maximum of £250 (I think). Unless the seller have an '80% off fees' offer (Which I often do)Then the fees are minimal.
Once sold you should be able to swap numbers and emails at will.
C'mon Julie, what is the issue with the bike  ;)

I haven't seen the bike up close and personal, it's an issue with the discription and the seller.

The ad says its been fully restored, it hasn't, the chap told me he had a head gasket replaced and the clutch replaced and the frame has been powder coated, but he can't remember when. He can't remember how long he's owned it, he doesn't know if it has a V5. He didnt know his son had advertised it on ebay. He thinks it been off road for 20 years but it hasn't been taxed since 1985, then he said he rode it up the drive about 4 years ago.
It says 100% positive feedback but there are 2 negative feedbacks if you look through the list.
It's got the wrong seat on it for starters😁.
It all just doesn't stack up, it's all very iffy. If it had been as described in the ad, I would have bought it by now and so would a few other people I know.
Someone may go and buy it and it could be a wonderfully cheap purchase but, I doubt it.

I asked the seller why it was so cheap - reply was personal reasons.
It did make me wonder if they were the actual owners.

I asked when the bike had been restored - 20yrs in dry storage or not, I would change every seal, rubber and bearing.
I also asked for a few up close pics of the exhaust and engine. Nada.

As stated here, too good to be true and iffy. Im moving on.

Thats the old test - extra photos - wise to move on.
I was interested in an old Triumph Rigid frame bike a few years back. Up one popped on ebay and all seemed OK until I wanted some extra pictures and got no further info.

I asked if the seller was the registered keeper on the V5 and was the item available to view at that address - no reply in last  2 days.

Although the seller feedback looks ok the user name rings a very distant bell for previous under priced motor cycles.

General question - aside from eBay what are other places to look for Honda Fours (500/550). Facebook marketplace search engine sucks and it's pretty much the same stuff that's on eBay.

Autotrader doesn't have anything.

Any other places to search?

Bike is obviously in really bad condition. This feels like far to much work? What's the risk factor with parts considering state?

Most parts are available for the 400/4 and that will need most parts replacing. It doesn't look like there are many parts, if any that are good enough to refurbish. I can't even see it being a good investment as a breaker at the current price.

Sheesh, that is in a very poor state. By the time you have replaced parts, spent time on it etc etc, it would have been cheaper to buy a restored machine. Keep your eye on auction houses as sometimes, bargains can be had.....

The more I look at that bike, the more I'm amazed at the current bid of £666, I can't see it being worth anywhere near that, if anything at all. It's a scrapper.

Yeah thanks all, what I thought.

I'm all up for a challenge so don't mind a bike in a bad state, but this one did look far too gone.
