Tank Decal
« on: December 28, 2022, 08:38:39 PM »
Hi all , I am doing a 500/ 550 tank and am wondering if you can buy the tank decal including the black area as the only ones I have seen are the white lines and you have to paint the black area yourself. TIA

Dont think so, or at least never seen one that way, if you want something different use the gold stripes from the US 550 K2

Do you mean the black between the  stripes ?

I'm sure mine were like this when I did the 550 and I got them off Pikki on here and they had the black in between

I would message him and see what he says

Edit - this was mine - the black between the stripes was part of the decal

Hi Simon , yes the black and the stripes as a whole is what I was looking for.

The black is always painted on and the decal is the separator between the main colour and the black panel sorry to say Dave. Some people have the stripe painted on rather than use a decal. If it's a decal there is a small bump where it's attached, if it's painted it's generally flat. Either is ok with me but given the choice I'd go for painted lines.

Your pic looks like the later 550K tank rather than the 500K, different type of fuel tap.

Hi Ken , yea the pic is just a generic one it was the decal shape I was highlighting,  I have emailed  Piki so see what he says but even if it can be done it may be a challenge  to put on a tank 😉

Dave, the key thing that I found when putting my decal on my tank(I position and then fitted the decals for my painter before he painted the black over the gold) was getting the positioning measurements from a member who has the decals in the right place. A member on here provided pictures with measurements from front, back and upper of the tank badge.
I positioned the decal on with small pieces of masking tape. The painter then used fine masking tape to track the decal shape/position and sprayed the black below the masking tape. The decal was then positioned over the joint between the two colours.
I'll try and find the original photo's/measurements that were provided to me by a very experienced/knowledgeable member on here

Hello,
as the mates says, the black area must be painted and then apply the stickers.  Due to the rounded shape of the tank it would not fit well such a large sticker…
