The ultrasound causes cavitation (tiny bubbles) in the cleaning fluid, that literally vibrate the dirt off.

My mate has one - about the size of a large lunchbox and used for cleaning the valves in his sub-aqua kit.

It is also big enough for a single carb.

The Ultrasound process never ceases to amaze me,  just soap and water(almost). I have just had a bank of 4 done for my 400/4.
