CB750K2 (TYP 211M) is it still 'out there'?
« on: January 24, 2023, 09:57:08 AM »
Hi Folks,

A riding mate of mine (Richard Gipps) who I rode with in the mid-70's and 80's (and in more recent times) who now lives in Munich has asked me if his old CB750K2 (TYP 211M) is still 'out there'. He bought it new in August 1973 and has lots of found memories of it touring in the UK and Europe. According to the DVLA it change owners in June 2008, was last taxed in 2009 and was red back then.

Grateful for any info - he's not looking to buy it back, but is just wondering if it's owned by a forum member?

I've attached a couple of photos, one of the bike when new and on tour in Northern Europe in the 70's.

Cheers,
Andrew

Best of luck with the quest - out of interest has anyone found their old bike here the odds probably stacked as NO?

Wonder if DVLA would have a record of last known keeper? Type of info probably confidential and not available to general public!

When I was looking for my old gold K1 (JML 60K) a few years back I wrote to the DVLA for the history of previous owners but because of the emerging GDPR they no longer provided that service. They did however suggest I write to them with a letter for the last recorded keeper (with a SAE) and they would forward it on, heard nothing back.

I also posted on the FB page of the supplying dealer (Bill Bunn M/Cs South Ealing) who messaged back to say he'd carried out a HPI check for me and it was sadly written off in 1989.

Fingers crossed Richard's old bike hasn't met the same fate.

Bloody hell, all this talk about CB750's and reading back though some posts has got me hankering - someone please slap me!  :D

A slightly off topic issue but might be of general interest.
When I bought Wendy her car as a 25th wedding anniversary present back in 2003 I wrote to DVLA afterwards to obtain the ownership history of the vehicle - the reason I gave was to check the mileage history. About 6 weeks later I received the full ownership details as a microfisch print out of the previous four owners. There was no charge.

I tried this when I bought the 400 but they declined to provide me with any details as to previous owners - seems they do not have the same privacy issues when car parking firms hound vehicle owners for parking fines.
