CB750 SOHC F1 Luggage options
« on: February 01, 2023, 12:25:06 PM »
I have see the posts on K models but could not see anything for F1.

The F1 presents extra problems due to rear storage box creating a larger hinged section.

Im thinking of going to Spain this year on my F1 and have not had any luck finding a rear carrier rack.

Any suggestions appreciated.

They were always special order as the top had to hinge to open seat and had big plastic knobs where the top stay connected to the bottom.
If its not going on permanently the only normal reason to hinge it was to get at tool kit or remove tank, both of which you didnt ought to need to do on holiday so use a fixed one and put tool kit in luggage

Annoyingly I had one on my F1 and binned it when I got a car as the bike was then for sunny days out only.
I have not seen one the same since

They take some finding. When I was after one early last year Skoti had one but didn't want to let it go at that time. It could be worth getting in
touch with him. To widen your scope a little Mickwinf let me have one from I think a 550f though it didn't just go on it was easily made to go on
Whilst not perfect to me it is quite acceptable and useable. Make sure you get the suspension extension nut with it.  Thanks again Mick

Hello Martin,

here's some photos of my F1 equipped with a Givi mono rack and wing racks, secured using their universal fitting kit.

Hope this helps

Regards

Skoti.

P.S.
I've still got an original Tower carrier rack but don't want to part with it for as long as I own the F1.

Does that make it steer really vauguely when loaded up? It sits really far back on the back of that, surely it lightens the steering heaps with any weight in your boxes?   I can sling some fair weight on the VFR but have to jack the back up on the adjustment or it feels like the front wheels in the air, surely it must feel similar on that or does it ride OK?

Not a critisism, just an observation after selling hundreds of fitting kits and pannier sets over the years at various City branches when I was there it became clear that some bikes simply wouldnt accept a universal fitting kit but never seen one on a 750,.

Yeah,
I know what you mean about too much weight on the rack, that's why I decided only to carry sleeping bags, inflatable mattresses and other light stuff in that kit bag.

The panniers are the smaller 28l capacity ones and when fully loaded don't seem to effect the handling much. I've got a light weight 3 man tent in the tank bag which probably helps to balance things out a bit.

In addition to the universal fitting kit I had to make up a couple of saddle brackets which you can see attached to the chrome rear rail.

I've also got proper fully adjustable Ikon shockers fitted which greatly improve matters especially when I'm mostly carrying a pillion.
I'm often in the alps and It seems to ride ok like this, but I believe the F1 has a slightly longer wheel base than other CB750's and thus feels heavier to start with, but a bit more stable for touring.

My '94 Pan European was dreadful with too much weight on the rack and my Commando tank slaps if you take one hand off the handle bars.

Hi Skoti,
A slightly different issue, but still related to touring.

What is the screen you have mounted on the F1, and how well
does it work?
CB750 K2 - Ridden from Belfast(SA)-2-Belfast(NI)!
CB750 K1 - The less, said the better!
CB450 K1 - A work in progress.
CB400F Supersport - Rusty - not any more!

Hi Sean,

it's a nos Givi screen I bought from fleabay, probably meant for a scooter!

Had to shorten it about 3 inches and also make a bigger headlamp cut out.
After a fair bit of faffing around it works fine for me.
Flies hit the top of my helmet but my visor stays clean and that's the same result as my BMW R1150RT.

Hope this helps
