I have a CB 750K2, bought last October its in the dining room at present and I've been messing about with it over the winter (Which is still ongoing). I have new tyre's for her but having removed the silencers notice a rather noticeable rattle from a couple of them, which I presume is loose or parts of broken baffles ? Not sure what to do from here any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Welcome Mark - from another K2 owner. Unfortunately, apart from the end baffle, the insides are not removable. Hence, its probably rotten baffles I'm afraid - the originals were prone to that. Repo's are available and good quality - but expensive!
Loads of experts to ask on here including past Honda technicians and current specialist engineers

Thanks Phil, I thought as much. Shame because the steel in the silencers is still good did wonder if you could cut the end off empty out the crap and re-weld etc.

If it's loud and clunky when you shake it then baffles, if it sounds like a pair of Maracas then it could just be flakes of rust, a little jiggling will sort that out most times. Make sure the drain hole is clear, near where the silencer joins the downpipe.

Don't run the engine for short periods, always try and get the exhausts real hot so they dry out all the condensation you get when the engine first fires.  They'll last a lot longer that way.

You may be able to take the end baffle out and shake some of the rusty bits out but due to the compartation of the baffles, may not get it all out. I seem to remember someone on the forum cutting a rotten set of silencers up to identify the baffle layout but can't remember if it was for a 750? Shame to mess up good chrome with a visible weld and cost a fortune to rechrome - dearer than new set of repo's I would guess (and would be chroming unstable 50 year old metal). Worth a good shake though!

You will always get small flakes from old pipes. As long as they sound good and not too loud they, will be fine to use .
