I am in the process of rebuilding Lazarus's wheels and ordered stainless spokes from cws via ebay. Front ones seem to be ok but having some problems with the rear. Spokes looked to be the correct ones but the nipples supplied did not fit the spokes at all, the nipple thread was too small. However the outer part of the nipple was too large to go through the hole in the rim, so got in touch with cws, and they asked me to send them back which cost me £9 recorded delivery. I am using standard hub and new oem DID rims, but they seem to be having difficulty matching spokes, to get the nipples to fit the rim means the spokes would have to be too thin for a 500. I have done wheels before with no problem using mild steel spokes from Silvers so not sure why it is a problem as I am sure they have sold many sets before. Anyone had similar problems?

I have used them for the 500,200 and RD125

stainless spokes,rims and chrome? Nipples ,

Yes! I have had problems with CWS supplying nipples that did not fit the rim. I got the correct ones eventually. I remember measuring the hole diameter and old nipples to make sure I recieved the correct ones. That was to fit standard rims as well.

Certainly sorted my S/S spokes and rims. Everything fitted straight out of the box which was a blessing as it’s the first set of wheels I’ve built myself. Got a local guys to true them though. I learned a good tip from him, which was to true the wheel to the inner tyre rim seat and not the outer rim.

Years ago I bought a full set of SS spokes for the ‘750 (or 400F?) from CWS, and noted the nipples were oversized for the spokes. They tightened to a point, but would not accept any significant torque - I complained wrt the safety implications that conceivably a wheel could be rebuilt which would then fail @ the first shock. Recall a vaguely condescending reply, but to be fair the nipples were replaced @ no cost to myself.

thanks for replies, they are happy to replace them but they are unsure what to send, they say the ones that would fit are not big enough for a 500.

I guess it's always a risk if they do not supply your rims as well.

I was surprised to find out that they often  drill  rims themselves to meet the hub requirements.
