Insurance renewal time. WHy is it so much?
« on: March 27, 2023, 10:08:58 AM »
I've just received a renewal notice from Footman James for £206 covering my CB500 and a crappy 2002 Suzuki 125 runaround. I'm 61, got forever years no claims and 3 points SP40 (I didn't think the Suzuki could go that fast!). Both are on 2,000 mile annual totals.

It's the second bike that's doing it I think.

Can anyone recommend somewhere else to try for a better deal.

Last year with Peter James, he used to be the James  in FJ,

I paid £118 classic for my 3 bikes
500-4
200
RD125

that includes a club discount for belonging to the VMCC

worth contacting him, he didn't leave FJ for nothing

Just spoke to Peter James and they have quoted £240! I'm not a member of VMC or VJMC so am not getting a discount. Maybe Footman James are good value after all?

When looking at Insurance Renewal via the usual online searches I often found that quotes in last few days  of a month cheaper than the first week of any month - the expression screen scrapers I believe was/is the cause depending if insurers had reached the underwriting quota or something like that.

My house insurance is always cheaper with the same company online as a new customer than in the renewal price. Last year I saved £40 staying with MoreThan for our house cover.

I spoke to PJ as well when mine was due.
He was quite upfront and said there’s no way he could compete on the modern bike.

If it was just the 500 he’d have been fine.
