Triumph forum recommendations pls.
« on: March 28, 2023, 11:20:42 PM »
Am taking delivery of a new Speed Twin this week, and simply asking recommendations for a friendly, knowledgeable forum such as Steve’s SOHC we have here.
There are indeed a few I can find, but simply trying to save myself the grief of picking a wrong ‘un.

Whilst here, general thoughts as to dealership maintenance vs home maintenance on a modern bike? I much prefer the latter being an innate and retired tinkerer, but accept certain tasks (eg balancing throttle bodies) beyond my current toolings.

Ta.

Join the TOMCC Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club. Lots of knowledge available there for old and new Triumphs, and they sell some merchandise, publish useful links, etc.

I see Henry Cole is auctioning his 1960s 500 speed twin,

I could help you with looking after that,

But I assume you're getting a big new model,

Very popular, ride well I am told,

Enjoy

As Bryan says, first couple of services at the dealer until out of warranty.  In UK/EU you don't have to, but it saves a lot of arguments if anything goes tits up. I did all my own servicing after that. Oil and filter changes, air filter and spark plugs. Brake fluid changes and brake cleaning. Valve clearance checks can be awkward on some models. I did regular oil changes and the clearances stayed in spec so I never needed to change the shims.
