oil pressure
« on: July 12, 2010, 03:22:22 PM »
oil pressure light not going out when i turn it over.

no oil leaks

brand new oil

checked the scavenger pipe etc all seems flush and sealing.

started after removing the sump and clutch cover to remove the kick start mech. have decided not to run the gears on the shaft as not using it. (could this cause any drop in pressure ?)

any suggestions ?

IIRC the switch earths the circuit so try removing the wire from it, if the light stays on then you have a short.

My thoughts too.  Broken switch or wiring. I've seen a few broken oil pressure switches in my time. They leak and the oil pressurises both sides - hence no measurement!

was the switch, thanks!

as an afterthought, i have got it working again but it seems a touch slow to respond to come back on, would this be the sign of a damaged switch ?

it works but seems a bit slower than it used to be (dont we all?)

If it is slow to come back on (when you stop the engine), that's surely a sign of a good engine!

I have a spare oil pressure switch if need be.
