CB 750 On't telly
« on: April 14, 2023, 02:13:19 PM »
Anyone see the eposide, last night, of Mike Brewer dream cars (or something like that) in which they trade their way upwards to give someone their dream car.

One of the vehicles bought and sold was a CB 750 partly built by a restoration expert "Andy" as he didn't want to complete for reason of, too much work.
Usual description, motor gone through, new tank and painted bits to go with it. The show "fall guy" for drama was most of a 4 into one system, without silencer.
Que explanation by Mike as, rare as hen's teeth, impossible to buy, no replacement made of the 4 pipe system needed to complete. He'll get on the blower to "World wide" contact network to see if he could locate such unicorn items  :)
Cut to later round up, he'd located a chap called David Silver no less !! and found none available to supply for another 5 months  :-\ but good news, customer had returned a set he didn't need  ;D that could be purchased for a reduced £900 yay, pipes arrived, Elvis fitted them,  set final drama of the " will it start, won't it start" shenanigans just for the punters you'll understand.
On the button, first time........but looks like a lot of throttle Elvis is using to keep it going there :o

Sold via bidding to happy new customer.

Cut to real target, Caterham super 7 for happy ending. Aaaaaah.

Oh, and the alignment of #4 downpipe looked, ahem, not quite matching other pipes, that's just from a quick look in telly land editing.  Probably why they were returned to DS if that's definitely there.

Reg no PMF 115R and thought they said a 1972 model, painted fork ears too, likely a bitsa. Thought it had K2 top yoke and clocks, possibly.

And to continue the story, customer comes back complaining of No4 pipe being way out of line, asks to see the fitter but of course "Elvis has left the building".  ;D ;D

Typical TV program, make it out to be really hard to do when in fact it's childs play if you know you're stuff and especially if you have the contacts.
Kids in a the back seat cause accidents.

;D ;D nice riff on Elvis.

I like the two of them, Elvis has decent outlook toward the mechanical side of things, the need for a bit of drama in programming is always going to skew things though.

So very true, having contacts and knowing knowledgeable people can make life at lot easier  when the bike you have lusted  after for ages is not all what you were told it was.

Of all the car programs on TV I think Wheeler Dealers is the worst for making things up especially when it comes to the final bill and the man hours taken to restore wrecks to pristine cars. Virtually every car they work on gets a new set of tires but these are rarely shown on the final bill. Likewise the man hours, it's always something in the region of 40-60 hours. It takes that long to prep a car for painting but they service the car, replace a gearbox, rebuild suspension, swap out the interior , fix dodgy electrics and respray the car. All unbelievable but I still watch it😏.
For me Car SOS is still the best car show simply because Fuzz knows what he's doing and was previously a contributor to Practical Classics magazine.
I wish somebody would do a motorcycle restoration show though!

Their workshop is in Oxford and they asked the owner from Oxford Classic Honda to visit and give them his opinion on that 750. He visited and started giving his views on it, surrounded by a load of folks but gradually they all disappeared, apparently disinterested until there was just one left. The last person then b@ggered off and he was left on his own . They didnt even offer him his fuel costs for going there.
