550 ignition wiring question
« on: April 24, 2023, 04:56:08 PM »
Hi all, the bike I am building is a 550f & wish to delete the clocks , ignition etc for a single clock up top , I also wish to delete the 550f ignition and replace with a 550 k one on the side . The ignition DS sells only has 4 wires but my F has 5 pins , does anyone know what the difference is between the two . Cheers Dave

You would have to check the wiring diagram to see what they do, good luck with finding the switch bracket for the side and the plate it bolts to wont be there

There is almost no difference between the 500 switch and the 550 switch. Yes the 550 has 5 wires but the extra wire just joins one of the existing wires when it's inside the loom. So long as you stick to the 4 main colours, Black, Red, Brown and Brown/White and make sure they join to the same colours in the loom you'll be fine. The 500 uses a 4 terminal square connector block, Kojay sell them. All you'd need to do is extend the wires down from the top yoke area down to under the tank.
