Clutch cable guide
« on: May 03, 2023, 10:37:51 AM »
Could anyone tell me the DEFINITE place for this clutch cable guide, I just can’t remember and after trying to put it in various places, apart from the fact it fouls the tank I can’t for the life of me remember where it went and how. Sadly don’t have any shots in the camera from  disassembly to give me a prompt…..
Any shots gratefully received

This is where I have mine. Can't be 100% that it's the original position but fits without interference and cable runs without snagging. You may have to zoom in.

This is a picture I found earlier - a member here methinks?
Photo works when you zoom in.

Hi Roo,
Where is the cable guide located on Matt's OE bike? The Honda4Fun routing diagram appears to show it located as the picture Ted posted.

I seem to recall it was fitted to the end bolt on the breather cover, the reason I seem to think this is correct is that A. The cable wouldn't run over the cover and thus may be abraided by the cover as it would in Teds position, which looks to me like one of the rear bolts and B. The metal ring is shaped so it fits over the bolt hole, the shape of that makes sense for it to be at 90 degrees to the bolt, which I don't think it can do on a back bolt.

I’m gonna have a play tmrw again I forgot tonight. This is Matt’s bike. I have it in the end volt at the min but it Gould the tank and there’s only so many places it will go. ……..
I seem to recall it being located so that it threw the cable off at an angle like that from when it was taken apart. Just rings a distant bell. I’ll have a look….

Here is a picture of mine, as Oddjob states it is fitted to breather cover, however mine is fitted to the bolt at the back of the cover, it seems to run smoothly enough and without fouling the tank, and with the raised edges on the bracket where it bolts to the cover it can only go the one way up, although, I suppose if it was to be fitted onto the end bolt as Oddjobb says it could go either way as the raised edges would clear the cover at the bolt.

Just checked for clearance, it is a clear 3/4" from the breather box top and, although it doesn't look like from the angle of the pic, a good 1 3/4" to 2" clearance from the rocker cover.

Mine is on the breather cover rear bolt like rbt. Although it has been taken off since the bike was new I think it's been put back in the original position and had no issues for the first 100,000 miles...

Yes Ted, it sits almost directly under the coils, so with the tank clearing the coils it will clear the cable holder.

I think that’s the spot if I’m honest, I had issues with it fouling stuff, including the tank but when I get home I’ll revisit that and get it in to see how things sit

It's meant to sit the other way up with the flanges of the ring facing down, this then stops the ring rotating and keeps it in the correct orientation. In which case the end bolt is probably the only one it would fit.

Honda wouldn't have put the flanges on the ring unless they had a use.

That does make sense and is probably correct.

I will leave mine as it is just now as I am content with it and would need to disconnect the cable to take the guide off and turn it the other way round. Once I take the cable off I will try it in the location suggested by Oddjob.
