Author Topic: Gearbox bearing half circle retainer orientation question ?  (Read 291 times)

The two bearing half rings that sit in the grooves for the output shaft & main shaft have what looks like a rebate machined into them - at first I thought it was a wear mark on the 57 mm part - on the smaller 52 mm part it looks too perfect.
Not mentioned in my Haynes manual - did a quick site search - failed to find anything.

So which way round do they fit please?

There is no rebate on them Ted, must be chatter wear. I'd replace them in that case. Also check the bearing for the same damage although I'd expect the bearing to be ok as it's hard metal.

Thanks Ken I will be checking the gearbox parts thoroughly over the next few weeks - the bike did have all it's gears before I started the rebuild.
