With engine out Is it possible to split the gear box without removing the head so I can change the tensioner in the sump
Honda 90ss, Cb250k1 supper sport,
Cb400 four, CB750k7, Cb550, Cb750f2n,
Cb750k2

Yes you can split in this way to facilitate.

If, for example you wanted remove the crank though, you'd need to take the cam out and free the camchain to work on the crank.

The primary tensioner though doesn't need anything but to pull the lower case, with nothing else in top case disturbed.

If you are replacing the primary tensioner your primary chains will need replacing and while your in there, you may as well replace the cam chain. You can do all this by removing the lower crank case, rocker cover and cam towers without removing the head

I have been looking at getting the parts to work on bottom end as sergested to do cam chain at same time as tensioner and primary chain but when I look I don’t think it’s possible to change cam chain without removing head see pictures
