Rubber
« on: June 26, 2023, 09:55:57 PM »
Evening all, I’m just cutting bits of ally up to have ‘snotted’ together at the welding place down the road and been looking for rubber blocks, door stops, lumps of this n that to attach to the bracket I’m making, to use as a stop for the centre stand. Blimey it’s dear!

Would anybody have a lump of rubber block between 15-25mm thick and about 25mm square?

Just trying to avoid spending 8 quid on a Matt to cut the corner off and forever for it to be in the way until required for a job and by which point it’s knackered! I’m sure you’ve all been there? “I’ll keep hold of that as I reckon it’ll come in for something”, go grab it 6 years later and it’s shagged out and you bin it

Soz to be on the scrounge but cash flow has been crap this month and still skint 🫤

Fanks

When I broke the CBX550 when I was at Queenies I just put all the odds and sods in a big box, stuff that would never be used for warranty etc. When I left I took them all, in there is a genuine Honda main stand rubber off the CBX. It's 20 x 30 x 12mm not including the part which passes through the metal for it to hang off. That any good.

A bit of thinking outside the box - no pun intended.

Roo have you looked at the rubber blocks that they fit on Horse Box ramps. I used some to make door stops on some UPVc Hotel  double doors a few years back. They are big enough to make pretty much what you want with rubber to spare - just a thought. They have gone up a lot since I bought a pair in 2017!

In the morning I will take a look in my garage as I used to have a few rubber mounts for previous 4x4's plus some orange graded suspension rubbers. If I find anything that might be suitable I will take a photo - postage all free to you Bud - I'll check against your sizes.

There’s heaps you could whittle down as long as there’s enough meat to start with although as I have to drill it and recess a nut/bolt head into it, the denser the better I reckon??

I’ve mocked up various and decided on a best fit scenario using a P9 battery as a substitute, imaginary, rubber which is 15mm thick. Give it another 10mm or so to allow for wriggle room and I should be golden once fiddled with. I’ve seen dense rubber stable mats that would be ideal but nobody wants to cut a corner off for me the miserable swines
Up for anything as long as it’s carvable or at least able to get some form of finish on rather than bobbly, sanding marks being left due to its density. You kinda get the drift?

I've picked up rubber blocks from the road in the past - I think they are bits of truck suspension so quite chunky....worth keeping an eye on the roadside and medians.

What about using a rubber old from an old Honda seat base (shave off the nipples that fit into the base)?
