Newbie to this forum
« on: June 28, 2023, 12:38:18 PM »
Hi all,

Thanks for the add

I have just purchased a '72 CB500 four, which I intend customising into a Hailwood rep

Rationale being, as a pensioner, I will soon be too old to bump start my current Honda, so will retain the electric start on this one!

A million questions running through my head, but fitting the Hailwood style fairing over the sticking out alternator, without cutting a hole in it, will be my first challenge....

Current bikes are:

1972 Honda CB500 Four K
1972 Honda CB350 K4 (see avatar) that I restored from a wreck
1974 Yamaha TZ/RD250 (looks like a TZ A twin shock but has an RD aircooled engine)
2014 Royal Enfield Continental GT535 (for going to the cafe on)
2019 Suzuki GSX-R1000R ('cos every pensioner needs a 200bhp Superbike!)

TT & Manx Grand Prix fan, first attended in 1976
Other hobbies include: Paragliding, snowboarding, unicycling, skateboarding, chasing women and drinking beer

Here you go:

So I'm not hijacking the forum, by posting a Yamaha, my K4 is behind it and the picture on the wall is inspiration for my CB500 Hailwood rep

Some very nice machinery there!
When we lived in Southport there was a chap who had some CB77 stuff from me who was into building race rep stuff and had one of Joey Dunlop's 125 race bikes upstairs in a bedroom. I got a lot of 350/4 stuff from him just in time - it was already in a skip at the back of his house.  Might be able to assist with the beer drinking but as for the women chasing - I won't be able to remember why I was chasing if I ever caught up!

Welcome to the forum!

Ian

Welcome to the forum. You seem experienced in the modding of standard bikes based on your 350 so sure you will get over the alternator/fairing issue. I used an Electrex World race alternator for my CR750 Replica which allowed me to avoid cutting the fairing. Expensive but good kit that kicks out a good output
Heres the link but not sure were you would get a cover from - maybe Davies Motorsport
Good luck with the project
Current Bikes:-
Honda CB750K2 (1975)
Honda CB500K2 (12/1972)
Honda CR750 Replica (1972)
Honda CB350K0 (1969)
Kawasaki ZZR1100D3 (1995)
Kawasaki ZZR250 (1990) Project (Going on eBay ASAP)
