Earth nuts in headlamp
« on: July 11, 2023, 06:30:19 AM »
Are the earth nuts on both sides of the headlamp shell interior meant to have a single terminal like the one in the picture here, or have separate ends? I've seen both on the internet now, whatever mine are a bodge and one is rusty as hell so I want to replace, but which is it?  ( BTW...Earth nuts, that is what the Germans call peanuts!  ;D )

Both will work, maybe they were different for different countries. UK 400's were singles  ;)

My UK 400 had one earth nut on each side as does my 500 - my parts book also shows Qty 2.

IIRC each wire had a connector not two into one.

Yes, I just managed to find out myself, part 466 in this image from cmsl. Meanwhile my left front indicator has stopped working since I put the jungle back together. It seems the bodger of the past has left another fish under the floorboard for me.  ::)

In my limited experience poor earths inside the headlamp wiring are common.

FWIW I added a new earth wire on each indicator attached to the lamp end that meant threading two wires down the four stalks instead of just the lamp power feed.
My rear indicator earth on the bracket that goes to the frame was in very poor condition plus all that rubber mounting does not make earthing reliable.

It was a while ago now so can't remember where but I also added some extra earths for the frame & rear lamp wiring loom - they are out of sight so thought it was a good idea at the time.
