Fitting a Delkevic exhaust system on my CB550F 1977
« on: July 21, 2023, 08:23:31 PM »
Hey all

I just received a Delkevic Exhaust system with a straight pipe (this one: https://delkevic.com/full-system-to-fit-cb500-four-1971-1973-cb550-1974-1975-cb550k-1975-1978-cb550f-1975-1977-with-classic-straight-universal-muffler-and-stainless-steel-4-1-downpipes/).

I can't get it to fit though, and Im not sure if it's because I am missing something. The muffler won't fit straight on the head, and when I use the included bracket, I can barely get the muffler to connect with the head (see pictures). Furthermore, when the muffler is connected with the included bracket, the centerstand is not hitting the rubber piece included and mounted on the muffler as well.

Has anyone fitted this system, and can help me with a little guidance?

Hang on a minute Alex. Graham's Mongrel has a Delkevic, I'll go and take some photos.

Looks like this set will fit the 500 four.
The bracket is too long.
Contact Delcevic with the problem.

As said, one system cannot fit all the bikes with only one mounting plate as the footrests are in differen places, if they dont have a different mounting you will have to modify what you have or make one

Yours looks like a different bracket and it's fitted on the wrong side of the footpeg hanger.

Thanks for those pictures Julie! The foot peg bar on that bike seems to be different than mine. It's probably because I have that different setup that it doesn't fit. I will try and email Delkevic and see if they have another proper bracket.

And I think it's supposed to be mounted on the inner side and then the passenger foot peg on the outside, no?

I think where you fit the bracket depends on what frame you have Alex, I think Graham's is a 550K1.

I have written Delkevic and asked if they have other bracket options. In all the Delkevic systems you have installed for 550s, is it always the same bracket in the package? Mine came in black as well, but looked official enough…

Yeah, the center stand stop is stainless. Maybe it's new that they paint the other one.

But the bracket for the hanger has always been the same type, right? I was just thinking if they ship different brackets depending on what CB550 model you are buying for.

All the ones i have fitted have been bare stainless but, that was the early ones when they were half the price. Just spoke to a member on my whatsapp group and he has just fitted a new one to a CB550F1 and the bracket is black on his. I will put some pictures up of his fitted, if he doesn't do it before me.  ;)

Aw man, that would be very helpful with some pictures of their mount on a F1 model! Then I can see of the bracket is different as well.

Pretty sure that the bracket needs to go on the outside face of the footrest mount or the bolt head and exhaust mounting bracket will strike the swing arm? I’ve got an F1, but I’m not in a position to take photos until later this afternoon. If Trig doesn’t get round to sending a photo I’ll send one this pm.
