Cb550 rear wheel or hub
« on: August 19, 2023, 02:44:11 PM »
The brake lining on my 550f is cracked, I've looked at getting it relined but I think a good used wheel or hub may be a more straightforward option if I relaced it to my rim.

Hard to find a good used wheel and once you clean off the surface rust you may find it is cracked. A common problem on old bikes  ;)

I've been told as much but so far I've not found anywhere that will reline it

I have a hub!
I think it is a 550k3.
I bought it for the same reason (cracked liner, then I was offered a wheel, so now it is surplus to requirement.)
The liner is not cracked, measures approx 178mm I/D.
£10 pus postage
Or collect in Gloucestershire.

If interested, I do have:
The Bearing Retainer removal tool.
Also some sprockets: 37T (x1 "JT" new unused; plus x1 37T used/ fair; plus x1 34T used/fair)

Hi Andy, that looks promising.  I just need to check it's the correct one for my F1

It is not a F2/ K3 hub. Looks like a 500/ 550F1 hub but, hard to tell. Worth a gamble at a tenner Dom. Buy it and see if it matches yours once stripped down  ;)

And if Dom doesn't want it, i will take it off your hands  ;)

Looks to be a 500/550 early hub.. The later 550 hub has a thicker support wall around the bearing. The ribs on the hub itself are also different, those look the same as your present one.

Is the sprocket carrier and the sprocket plate supplied with the hub Andy? If not I'd be interested in those. I'm not sure you got the measurement right though, it says Max 181mm and if your measurement is right that would put the shoes right through the liner and into the alloy casting itself when it worn to it's limit.

it was everything in the photo that Dom is interested in.
& yes, the measurement reading was puzzling to me, but it is what is in the photo, albeit with a plain ruler.
