sandcast or not.

Hi Guys,  KO project renovation the bike is registered August 70 UK one owner.
             The engine No. 103151 appears to make it to late to be a sandcast, but on stripping and cleaning engine, the block and head are sandcast.!!!!!
              Would appreciate your thoughts about this  ???

These guys state that the last sandcast engine was 1007414 so looks like you are either in the money, or faced with a horrendously expensive restoration!

If it is it has to be an import as no sandcasts came directly to UK, what does the logbook say

Hi, Have you posted the correct number? there are normally 7 digits (103151)?

1003151 would be a sandcast

CB750 (1969-1970) produced units 53,400, please let us know

Sorry posted wrong no. should be 1031501, have K2 so noticed difference with this one, seams to have a few sandcast specs but not the numbers, got me stumped. :-\

                              it is a NOT ,what you have a late cb750 k0 (diecast)and they are the easiest to restore you dont need cut mudguards and wrinkle tanks or short chainguards. my k0 frame# 1031568 is not much later than yours and was registered in September 1970 ,it is only the engine cases that are sandcast (rougher diecast finish) and not the barrels and head , although they do look a little rough,i have two more cb750 k0's a lot earlier than yours. frame # in the 1015---'s and a third frame # 1018---,and they are all uk bikes i might add ,and they ain't got sandcast barrels and head either,so enjoy it for what it is a uk registered honda cb750 k0 with uk history,if you would rather a over priced sandcast and sell your body parts to pay for one, i would gladly take it of your hands cost price of course.seriously i just love bikes with some real stories behind them that you can relate too, i only ever saw two honda cb750 k0's when i was sixteen and the guys that had them was real characters and i always "said i will get one of them one day" :-* and here i am now with four.you gotta love bikes lol, " Honda the power of dreams"

Thanks Steff, good info helped a lot, and since posting the question I visited Sandcast Owners Club ( I know over to the Darkside) in there Tech/Restoration Support they state the sandcast has depressions between rear head bolts, mine has NOT, so just bad alloy I guess, so any info on cleaning it would be appreciated, originally came from Isle of Sky, so sea air probably wont have helped. Thanks again all.

I've had one sand blasted before, complete assembled cases before strip down and make wooden plugs to cover oil pipe and starter-motor holes and replace any bolts if you want to keep originals. Obviosly this gives the same finish to all cases unless you've got extra rocker and alternator castings. This gives the best finish for painting either silver or black.

Originally all main cases, barrels and head casting were a greyish / silver aluminium-ish painted finish (should be a piece of p to mix up ;-) with the cam, alt and gearbox covers loosely polished but not too shiny, just laquered.
