UK or GB national stickers on historic vehicles
« on: September 05, 2023, 08:35:27 PM »
I've made a point of putting a black and silver GB sticker on CB400F. I already have a historic style black metal number plate as is allowed, but what about the national identifier we have to wear abroad, even on motorcycles I've just learnt, I never complied though. I dislike the UK sticker as opposed to GB, did political correctness cause it?  ::) I feel many continentals will mistake us for Ukrainians too, confounding the object of the thing. Anyone know the finer points here?

Unfortunately George, it's needs to be a UK sticker if riding abroad but, if you're just staying in UK, you can keep the GB sticker 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 But.... Driving in Spain, Cyprus and Malta......
You must display a UK sticker to drive in Spain, Cyprus and Malta, no matter what’s on your number plate 😂😂😂😂 Here's a link to the regs.

Thanks for this Julie, I wondered if I could dodge that one if I ever take Elen over the ditch!

Apparently it was at the request of the UK government to change to UK. But on the ferry to northern Spain recently about 20% of the vehicles were still showing GB.

My interpretation of that is that some government Muppet (sorry minister) wanted to be able to say they had been involved in #@%$, so pushed for a change that they could lay claim to...

Great dinner party for him/her....unnecessary hassle and expense and red tape for everyone else.

I've been using three UK registered bikes over here without GB or UK stickers for over 20 years.
Toured all over Europe with my old F1 and never been stopped or questioned yet, maybe I'm lucky?

Spend each winter in Spain running around on a wee NF75, no sticker either.

Not sure about that.

The bikes in question are UK registered with DVLA and have UK number plates, I hold a UK passport...

Before we joined the EU I held a British Passport according to the outer cover. I still have the EU version so not sure how the new ones  are printed.
